DivX on Xbox 360 coming

Of all places to find out that Microsoft will soon be supporting the DivX format on it’s Xbox 360 system, it would have to be during an annual stock holders meeting at JP Morgan.

When Paul Coster, a JP Morgan analyst, slyly asked Kevin Hell of DivX whether or not DivX support would be in the next firmware release of Xbox 360, the reply was, “Yes! that, uh, we’re in discussions with Microsoft on that at this point in time, so I can’t go into any great detail on that. Um, that is not a certified, that is not a certified or licensed product at this time.”

If you have a JP Morgan account, you can listen in on the conference. Its about 24 minutes into the conference.

While the statement from Hell sounds like a retraction to his initial enthusiasm for support of the DivX on Xbox 360 systems, I have great expectations that it is going to happen. Microsoft is already supporting DivX format on it’s media system so I don’t see why Microsoft would decide to not release it on its Xbox 360 system.
