Stranglehold Guidebook

There are only two worthy Chips manufacturers, Intel and AMD. What AMD has an advantage over Intel is the marketing concept to drive sales of it’s processor chips, graphics boards, and motherboards.

The concept is to get customer loyalty, and there are none better than PC gamers. It is the gamers that spend money on faster processors, better graphics, and pushing the envelope for better integration of the system for their game play.

AMD, in a great marketing blitz is offering John Woo’s Stranglehold for the PC to anyone who purchases an AMD product.

For fans of John Woo’s cinematic action scenes, this is the perfect game as you play Chow Yun Fat’s character “Tequila” and go bust some caps up some gangsta asses.

Stranglehold is a spinoff of the movie “Hard Boiled” where Chow Yun Fat, as  “Tequila” goes against a crime syndicate - dealing in arms.

PS3 Owners in Europe May Cry 4 DMC4

Devil May Cry 3 Figure

European owners of the PS3 may cry foul against retailers for jacking up the price of the popular game series “Devil May Cry 4.”

The cost of the PS3 version of DMC 4 is £10 more than Microsoft’s Xbox 360 version in Europe while the prices for DMC 4 in the US is the same.

Videogamer had a quote from a Capcom Spokesperson.

“We don’t set the prices of our games, that’s at the discretion of the retailer. In this specific instance, the process has resulted in a price difference, but the process itself is not something we completely control.”

DS rocks out with Guitar Hero

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

So, you’re a famous rock star on tour, and you’re bored as hell in the bus, as you’re heading to your next gig. There’s not enough room in the bus for you to rock out with your guitar…You pull out your DS and start rocking on the DS…

Rumors of Guitar Hero for the DS has now upped their ante.

The confirmation by Activision to release the game Guitar Hero: On Tour was given by Trademork. The relase date seems to be set for June 2008.

Trademork found that Activision had filed to protect “Guitar Hero: On Tour” as their trademark for computer game related software.

How the game will work on the DS is still a mystery, I’m thinking it’ll be stylus based, kinda like the PSP game DJ Max, where you click on buttons in relations to the graphics on screen. The reason I think it’ll be stylus based is that an external accessory like a wireless guitar would be of no use when you’re trying to rock out while looking at the DS screen.

If it comes to an additional accessory, it’ll probably be wifi based use and using something like a circular rod with buttons that you can press while playing…

Hello PSP - Can you hear me now?

Friday, January 25th, 2008

In a previous post, I had mentioned that Sony had planned to offer GPS for the PSP as well as VOIP through Skype.

A recent statement on Sony’s Japanese website,  states that the expected roll out of Skype VOIP for PSP will be delayed from the Jan 24, 2008 launch date.

The reason are the mikes that the PSP would use, they do not meet the specifications that Skype requires.

GTA 4 (Grand Theft Auto) release set for April 29, 2008

Grand Theft Auto 4 Guidebook

Grand Theft Auto 4 was expected to be released last fall but was delayed for a release in 2008.

The speculation was that it was a PS3 issue with development for it.

Rockstar announced today that they would be releasing the game on April 29, 2008.

“We are so excited to be releasing Grand Theft Auto IV,” said Sam Houser, Founder and Executive Producer of Rockstar Games. “We’ve pushed ourselves very hard to make something incredible and hope the game sets a new benchmark for interactive entertainment.”

Jeronimo Barerra, the Rockstar product development VP addressed the issue on MTV.com.

“It’s really no surprise to anybody that the PS3 was definitely a contributing factor to that. Now, we’re neck and neck. That’s not an issue anymore. But back then that was something we were taking into account. That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with the PS3 version. It’s awesome. They’re both identical.”

Also mentioned in the MTV feature is that, on occasion, certain portions of GTA 4 will not require the use of a hard drive on Xbox 360 systems.

Ceramic White DualShock 3 SixAxis

Ceremic White DualShock 3 SixAxis controller

You’ll need another controller for your ceramic white PS3 and with the reviews that this controller is getting, it’ll be well worth it.

The DualShock 3 controller is a bit heftier and battery life is the same. The battery used is a 300maA compared to the regular controller’s battery which uses 30maA.

The rumble feature is back in this controller and playing games like Unreal Tournament 3 and Uncharted are better with the rumble feature of the controller.

Does it matter that its a Black or White PS3 at $299

White PS3

The PS3 is coming in another flavor; White. The once available color only available in Japan will be released to the US market.

The question is when will it be released?

The ceremic White PS3 that was available in Japan since November of 2007 is a 40GB unit that comes with a white Dualshock 3 controller.

PSXextreme posts that Sony Japan had filed with the FCC and the American Telecommunications Certification Body in October of last year but had asked that it be kept quite until the release.

For more info check out PSXextreme.

More interesting is the rumor spreading that Sony could be selling their PS3 for $299, the magic price point as soon as Jan. 28, 2008. With Sony’s report that the cost of manufacturing the PS3 is cut in half, a price point of $299 is certainly doable.

At that price, I can afford to buy extra PS3s for my bedroom, garage, attic, restroom, etc… Highly exaggerating but you can see the benefits of the price cut.

With the Blu-ray capabilities and wifi streaming, I can manage to stream music to every nook and cranny of my home and play games or watch movies where the whim hits me.

If Slickdeals is correct, it will certainly not be the first time their predictions about price cuts for the gaming systems have been accurate. Slickdeals had predicted the price cuts for the Xbox360 and PS3 a few weeks before it happened. Check out Slickdeals.

If the rumor is true, then you can afford to purchase a Black and White PS3 at that price.

Your PS3 Media Center Can Do Much More

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

I don’t really see much of a need to hack the PS3 to make it into something else.

To me, its already near perfection. The heat created by the system is my only peeve.

The PS3 is a media center that can play games, run as a Linux system, play Blu-Ray movies, play streaming vids and music from a server, and supports most formats such as DivX and MP4.

However, some people are never content with what is done but what can be done with something new and I command them for attempting to improve upon it.

There is a PS3 homebrew project that is working on additional features for a PS3, such as VOIP, P2P, TV movies (including MKV), and a lot more stuff. The sytem is in beta and lots of bugs to work out, but its working and its free.

Quote from PS3Hex regarding the Megabox:
