Layoffs at Microsoft for Xbox 360 Staff?

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

With the recession of the US economy, it seems that not even Microsoft might be spared the costs of big revenue losses.

What is believed in some reports is that Microsoft might layoff anywhere from 10-17% of it’s workforce in mid-January of 2009. It’s believed that the Xbox Staff might be spared as they have been making a profit and the staff cuts would be for “marginal products”…

I think Microsoft will pull through as they have always come back on top from big failures like the first product launch of Windows OS, and other applications that we now can’t live without.

Censorship at HOME

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

It seems that Censorship is becoming a big issue in the online world. The latest to run afoul of censorship by a corporation is Sony’s “HOME” for the PS3.

Like it’s other counterparts, they are seeing growth pangs due to censoring the online community. Words such as “gay,” lesbian,” “bi-sexual,” and “Jew” and other words have been banned and is filtered out from text chats.

Xbox Live had similar issues when they censored words they deemed offensive.
I can understand the corporate view point that they do not want to be sued for having offensive comments, which should not be a corporations fault for offering a service where free speech should not be censored but by the parents who should be monitoring and guiding their children.

It’s just much easier to hold someone else liable instead of themselves and a corporation has to worry because that is exactly what is happening but they also get blamed for banning certain words deemed offensive by some individuals. I also believe that the people online should respect the online community and self-censor themselves instead. I wouldn’t want a nine year old hearing offensive words or talk of explicit materials by an adult that doesn’t care that a kid could be hearing it.

Hopefully, Sony and the PS3 community will find a way to work out the censorship issues.

KAMICRAZY Now on iTunes

Monday, December 29th, 2008

They say the game is like a mix between Lemmings, Enigmo, & Pitfall. To me, it reminds me of the old Jungle King (Jungle Hunt King).

I say the old game Jungle Hunt King is similar even though I can’t really stress why. The story line differs but the idea/feel seems the same to me. In KamiCrazy, the Kami soldiers have crash landed in the jungle and you must help them get back to their ship through dangerous terrains and even more dangerous natives.

The iPhones game is controlled by flicking, pushing, nudging, and swinging the soldiers to safety through 40 levels of puzzles.

You can click on the link below to purchase KamiCrazy for $3.99.

You can also check out the free version which has 8 levels for you to play.

Crazy Penguin Catapult

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Just played a Crazy Penguin Catapult on my iPhone and I’m addicted to it. Launching Penguins from a catapult and sacrificing themselves by hurling through the air to hit the polar bears is quite an entertainment.

I can’t get enough of watching Penguins fly and hitting those wicked Coke drinking Polar Bears.

Xbox 360 Knows How To Throw A House Party

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

There’s nothing like a good old House Party to bring a little fun for everyone, and it seems Microsoft knows how to make sure that a House Party will have a Xbox 360 available for fun and profit.

Based on the old House Party gatherings format used by such companies as Avon and other businesses that sells candles, to cooking utilities, to other products; the format seems to be working for Microsoft who’s sales have gone up since the price drop to $199 and this new marketing that they are using.

The person throwing the House Party gets a Xbox 360 Party pack with popcorns, trivia game “Scene It? Box Office Smash”, Xbox Universal Media Remote Control, and a three-month subscription to Xbox 360 Live and 1600 Xbox Points to purchase games, movie and TV show purchases.

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Since the November 13 release of the 2nd expansion for World of Warcraft, “Wrath of the Lich King”, the user base has grown to 11.5 Million subscribers!

The first 24 hours of the expansion’s release saw 2.8 million copies sold. It has now sold more than 4 million copies in the first month!.

Even with the bad economy, the World of Warcraft seems recession proof for Blizzard. They are hiring for several positions.

Check out Blizzards Job Openings and info on Wrath of the Lich King.

Nintendo DS: Burning Down The House

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

It seems that a faulty DS charger was the cause of a house that burned down and estimated at $236,304 for the bill.

The insurance company that paid the owner of the house is suing Nintendo of America for the house fire plus interest and court costs.

While a recall on DS adapters had been issued in Japan, there were no recalls for the US.

PS3 Supercomputing Black Holes

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Next time mom tells you to stop playing with your PS3, you can tell her you’re using it for scientific research.

Scientists at the University of Alabama and the University of Massachusetts have spent $6,000 dollars to purchase 16 PS3 to run in a supercluster mode, that means they connected the 16 PS3’s to run together to solve difficult mathematic equations to solve the question of “At what speed do vibrating black holes stop vibrating?”

You can create your own PS3 supercluster with a couple of PS3 systems, Fedora 8, USB memory stidck, a USB keyboard, and Professor Gaurav Khanna’s open source guide to do-it-yourself PS3 Cluster Guide.
