The world of Dofus goes mobile

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

Fans of Dofus know that the Anime style characters and MMORPG of this game is quite interesting.

From April 15 - April 29, the world of Dofus will become more interesting as a Cosmic Ray is heading for their world.

All subscriptions during this time will receive twice the lottery tokens and two additional gifts; the Raydi Shield and an item from the Crystalline Set.

Dofus players have been offered the chance to play the beta version of DofusPocket beta. The release of the mobile game is set for June of 2008.

“We wish to offer our DOFUS players new content and additional features that will add to the original online game. We do not wish to simply make a shorter version of DOFUS for mobiles.” says Mr. Emmanuel Darras, CEO and co-founder of ANKAMA. “It seems to be the logical follow-up to our development which is centered on innovating cross-media solutions as well as our will to have a total control over our projects.”

You can read more about the program from the register or go directly to doubleTwist.

Hello PSP - Can you hear me now?

Friday, January 25th, 2008

In a previous post, I had mentioned that Sony had planned to offer GPS for the PSP as well as VOIP through Skype.

A recent statement on Sony’s Japanese website,  states that the expected roll out of Skype VOIP for PSP will be delayed from the Jan 24, 2008 launch date.

The reason are the mikes that the PSP would use, they do not meet the specifications that Skype requires.

Over 1 million mobile games downloaded a month

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

A site for mobile game fans? Maybe…

If you need some games and you can’t stand paying the big phone companies large amounts of your play money, than a site which has reached over 1 million game downloads a month might just be the right one for you. Why? Cause the site offers free games.

The free games vary from demos, ad-supported, to full feature but all free to download and play. The only cost is the transfer fee your phone company may bill you for, otherwise you can download it to your pc and transfer the game to your mobile phone via blue tooth or data cable.

“The nature of mobile phones change the gameplay dynamic, but less than many would have believed,” said MobileRated president, Richard Mosher. “Some people see the medium as only effective for simple, casual games but we’ve had great success with certain highly engaging action games too. The truth is that successful games work within the limitations of the hardware they run on. Older and/or cheaper phones have more limitations and thus fewer successful game paradigms. New phone models incorporate significant capabilities and allow for gameplay that few could envision on a mobile phone as little as one year ago. The marketplace is not stagnating, it is evolving. Our downloads have grown 33% in a little more than three months and I firmly believe we are only scratching the surface of the true marketplace today.”

The ad based free games are supported via an in-game advertising. The ad-based games use the Kalador’s FreePlay technology to add the ads into the game. If you grow tired of the game’s advertisements but you still love the game, you can purchase the game which will get rid of the ads.

I took a look at the site and most of it are ad-based games. I found one beta I might be interested to play. Nintendo’s Zeldo is reborn in a mobile version. The mobile version is not released by Nintendo but another developer and is is Beta 3.

Ah Hellboy, the demon child that grows up to save the world from evil… What a twist!

Hellboy: Science of Evil - image from Kromestudios

Fans of Hellboy will be rewarded with the release of “Hellboy: Science of Evil” on the PSP, PS3, Xbox 360 and even on your mobile phone around June 0f 2008.

The initial date of the release was sometime in 2007, but Krome Studios shows ETA and no dates showing for the release, currently, even thought their trailer shows 2007…

The E3 2007 game trailer looks like it’s for the PSP. YouTube commentors pretty much think the graphics look like its more for the PS2.

It does look pretty bad on YouTube, but I think it’s more due to the compression of the video, either that or its a PSP game trailer. Check out this video from Krome’s webpage link, it’ll take you directly to the quicktime vid.
