Microsoft offering free HD-DVD emulator for Xbox 360

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

That’s right folk, Microsoft is now offering the once costly emulator for game developers to test out HD-DVD via a USB connection of an external drive or networked PC.

The once costly emulator which Microsoft was selling for $2999 is now being offered for FREE!!!

Now that Toshiba has all but given up support for the HD-DVD format, I’m guessing Microsoft is offering the emulator free as it’s still a good program for testing out programs for the Xbox 360.

For those developers that have purchased the emulator, they are in luck, Microsoft will refund the purchase of the program.

Xbox HD-DVD player on your PC

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

I’ve found a cool article about using the HD-DVD kit for the Xbox and converting it to be used on your PC.

You will need a mini-ata adapter or USB kit drive. It seems the recommendation is to use the USB format as the driver for the drive will automatically be installed where as the mini-ata will need you to install some drivers which weren’t mentioned.

April 7, 2007 is the last date posted for any comments about converting the player for use on the PC.
