Now your PS3 transfers Blu-ray movies to your PSP

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

During the CES 2008 (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, Sony demonstrated their PS3’s capability to play Blu-ray movies on the console.

The new features that will be added to Blu-ray movies, in the future, will be the addition of lower-resolution versions of the movie on the disc.

The PS3 is not encoding the Blu-ray movie for uploading to your PSP but sending a lower-res version of the movie that is stored on the Blu-ray disc.

For those with PSP’s with a memory stick, they will be able to download the lower-res version to their PSP from the PS3 system.

There was always the promise of greater inactivity,” said David Bishop, president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

I am not sure if the lower-res version of the movie will be available for transfer to other systems such as iPods but the outlook is that it will be easily transferable to another system as the lower-res version should be in mp4 format. (I am assuming that it’ll still be based on the mp4 format.)
