AT&T, iPhone, PSP, DS? Oh My!

Friday, March 6th, 2009

The success of the iPhone could be the exclusive deal with AT&T that allowed the phone to become such a raving success.

The low $200 dollar price of the iPhone, thanks to the two-year agreement you have to enter with AT&T has also brought a telecom company to be hugely popular that was once thought to be a waste of airwave space.

In fact, Glenn Lurie the president of emerging devices for AT&T told investors.com that” We’re willing to invest to get a customer.”

AT&T is extending their service to notebooks from Acer and Dell, as well as to portable video Games.

Specualtion is that people will go to AT&T if they will subsidize portable gaming units like the PSP or Nintendo DS.

Craig Moffett is an analyst from Bernstein Research who believes that American comsumers will go for the cost of higher monthly fees in return for an AT&T sponsored device with a two year contract.

Whatever may happen, I hope it means that AT&T has been working with Nintendo and Sony and have maybe seen a hybrid phone game system, not unlike the iPhone.

Compared to the PSP2 rumors in a previous post, it is now more a reality that the PSP2 is in the works.

A comment by a former COO of Acclaim, David Perry said, “I hear Sony finally has the PSP 2. And thank goodness, they’ve removed the stupid battery-sucking UMD disc drive. I’m excited!”

In a follow up, David said that he was certain the PSP2 will not have a UMD drive but he could not reveal who he got the information from.

New PSP Games Out in 2009

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

With all the lack of programming for the PSP and the lack of measly sales, it’s good news to hear from Sony that they are planning on releasing a lot of new PSP IPs in 2009.

Sales of the PSP is still popular in Japan, having sold more than 10 million units but the units have not been as popular across the continents.

Hopefully, this will start the kickoff to bringing back interest to the PSP.

PSP-3000 Cheaper Than 1st And 2nd Gen To Purchase

Monday, February 9th, 2009

You can’t hack the new PSP-3000 but the 1st and 2nd gen PSP consoles can be which has led to some interesting pricing of the PSP units being sold in Jakarta.

Purchase the bright Yellow PSP

Because of the high demand of hackers who wish to play pirated games on their PSP, the demand for the older PSP units has made purchasing an older generation PSP costly. The cost is almost double the cost of a new PSP-3000 version. Price is about 3 million Ruphia compared to 1.8 million Ruphia for the PSP-3000.

Retailers have been buying up as many of the refurbished 1st and 2nd gen PSPs from Hong Kong, Korea, and Japan.

PSP 2 rumors are swelling again and speculations are abundant on what the next version of the PSP will be like.

The new rumor is from IGN which states that they have some very reliable sources that have leaked some details about what the next version of the PSP will be like.

The PSP 2 will have a multi-touch screen like the iPhone allowing you to control movement as well as easier menu system navigation.

It seems that Sony had been doing some surveys with people to see what they would like in the next version of the PSP. One of the main interests was a touch screen so that would be a logical choice as the Nintendo DS and iPhone has proven it to be a very popular feature.

Xbox 360 leads as Sony sales slump

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Microsoft is probably happy for the holidays where Sony is crying, “Ba, Humbug!”

The report by Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR) says that the only success for the PS3 was the exclusive game in November called Resistance 2.

EEDAR expects Sony to report decline in sales for their PSP and PS3 units even though Sony had more sales on their PS3 system compared to the Xbox 360 before Microsoft decided on the price cut.

EEDAR also says that sales of Gears of War 2 and Left 4 Dead exclusives have helped Microsoft sales increase.
